Shelby Collins Brickey, 52, left on his greatest adventure of all on April 4, 2015, after an extended illness from chronic lung disease. Born February 12, 1963 in Little Rock, AR, he received his GED and studied two years at ITT technical college. He was a gifted musician and songwriter and performed with bands such as Hamilton Lambert, Tim Sullivan and Kenny Babb. In addition to being an avid writer, he loved to fish, hunt and camp and was happiest observing nature in the woods, often documenting his observations and identifications of wildlife in notebooks. He never met a stranger and would go out of his way to help someone. He was friendly, funny, loving, fearless and kind and loved being the center of attention.
He is predeceased by his beloved grandmother and adoptive mother, Anna Lee Brickey, and is survived by his life partner of 30 years, Carryl Blackburn; his mother, Julia Collins; two sisters, Tamara Isom and Tara Collins; brothers, Joseph Collins, Lance Collins and Stephen Collins; and two nephews, James and Nicholas Isom, all of Little Rock. He is also loved and missed by his two cats, Mr. Nelson and Molly.
A memorial will be held at a future date after cremation. Because of his love of animals, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Pulaski County.
Services are entrusted to Arkansas Cremation: Funeral & Cremation Service.
