Robert Paul Joseph Harrell, fondly known as Uncle Bob, passed away on September 18, 2015 at Salem Place Nursing Home after a brief illness.
Born in Hot Springs and a graduate of Hot Springs High, Bob was a proud graduate and supporter of Arkansas State University and its Baptist Collegiate Ministry. After graduation he served in the U. S. Army where he was stationed in Germany and worked for the Stars and Stripes. Returning stateside, Bob taught printing and journalism at Owensboro High School in Kentucky, Berry College in Rome, Georgia and also at Bladensburg Senior High in Maryland. Bob worked in several positions for M. S. Ginn and Co. of Maryland in printing and manufacturing. His responsibilities included documents for the embassies in Washington, D.C. on whom he called, before retiring as a Vice President with the firm.
Upon retiring to Perryville, Bob participated in several civic and volunteer organizations. The voters in Perry County benefitted from the redistricting plan that he developed for judicial elections. An avid reader, Bob was an enthusiastic supporter of the Perryville Library.
Bob was also a genealogy buff who made contributions to the Arkansas Historical Society, as well as amazing his family and many friends with the connections that he made.
Robert Paul Joseph Harrell was preceded by his father, Fred Conkling Harrell, and mother, Mae Harrell; his brothers James Harrell and Fred A. Harrell, and his sisters Stella Harrell Stephens and Dorothy Harrell Brown.
Surviving family members include two nieces, Sharon Stephens Bonansinga of Indio Hills, CA and Sheila Mae Harrell Kemp of Mason, TX, and two nephews, Bruce Stanley Brown of Lafayette, La., and Max Harrell Brown of Decatur, GA., and cousins, Don and Jack Bridges of Hot Springs, AR.
A memorial service will be conducted at Hollywood Cemetery in Hot Springs at a later date. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be sent to Alzheimer’s Arkansas (alzark.org). Services entrusted to Arkansas Cremation. Guests may register at www.arkansascremation.com.
