Rev. Thomas Alonzo Abney, age 88, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018, at The Gardner Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Star City, Arkansas. He was born to the late Thomas Mark and Willa Ione Abney in Houston, Texas.
He was a retired Methodist Minister, having served the church in Texas and then Arkansas since 1956. He was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin University, and also held degrees from the University of Texas and Southern Methodist University.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joyce, his parents, a son, Alford Thomas Abney, and a granddaughter Anna Elizabeth Abney.
His survivors include two sons, Mark C. Abney and wife Teresa of Wilmar, Arkansas, and Timothy E. Abney and wife Diana of Sherwood, Arkansas. Two daughters, Linda G. Pierce of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Rebecca L. Davison and husband Ross of Springdale, Arkansas,and a daughter-in-law Peggy Abney of Star City, Arkansas. A brother, Brian M. Abney of Star City, Arkansas, a sister Jean Ludwig of Henderson, Texas, and two step sisters, Gloria Levingston of Houston, Texas and Twila Thurman of La Grange, Texas. Survivors also include 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is to be held at Rock Springs United Methodist Church in Drew County, Arkansas on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM.
