Kenneth James Simpson, 82, of Hot Springs Village, AR, passed from this life March 21, 2016 at CHI St. Vincent Hospital under the care of Arkansas Hospice in Hot Springs, AR. He was born July 11, 1933 at War Eagle, AR, the son of Wayne and Edith Tankersley Simpson. Ken attended school in Huntsville, AR where he played basketball and was forever known as Ollie. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and was stationed at Bryan AFB, Bryan, TX and Clark AFB, Luzon Island, Philippines. He later relocated to Baxter Springs, KS where he went to work for Yellow Freight as a road driver retiring in 1995 from the Jackson, MS terminal. Ken was a member of the Baxter Masonic Lodge, Baxter Springs, KS, the Scottish Rite of Fort Scott, KS, and the Scimitar Shrine Temple of Little Rock, AR. He enjoyed feeding and watching birds, spending time with his family and friends, and watching University of Arkansas basketball and football. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Herbert Smith, and his brother Joe Simpson.
Survivors include: his wife, Barbara Joyce Greer Simpson of the home; two sons and daughters in-law, Gregory and Lisa Simpson of Quapaw, OK and Clayton and Shelley Simpson of Madison, MS; one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Darold Wofford of Miami, OK; one step daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Doyle Crouch of Ashdown, AR; two step sons and one daughter - in - law Scott McRae of Maumelle, Arkansas and Timothy and April McRae of Bryant, AR; and one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Joyce Simpson of Fort Smith, AR; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Virginia and Harvey McLoud of Forum, AR and Mary Bess Jackson of Hindsville, AR; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, March 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Huntsville, AR. A private interment will be held at the Fayetteville National Cemetery in Fayetteville, AR.
