Kenneth Darrin Ingle Bridges lost his battle with cancer on September 1, 2020, leaving behind a hell of a lot of stuff his husband and kids have no idea what to do with now. He never met a garage sale or flea market he didn’t like. So if you’re looking for vintage furniture, framed art, rugs, wrench sets, power tools, etc. Wait an appropriate amount of time and get in touch. But this is not an ad for a Flea Market.
Ken was born in Stuttgart, AR to Alice Cordelia “Dee” Ingle and the late Ellis Jack Ingle. He left to cherish his memory his mother, sister Jackie Ingle of Jacksonville, AR, his husband Douglas Bridges, daughter Macy Bridges and son Michael Bridges of Little Rock, AR. Along with a host of friends and family including his honorary children Jake JR Wisniewski, Brooke Wisniewski Silveira, Phosin “Fai” Wattanavekin, Bobby Petty and Becky Petty. Ken was employed with the Arkanasas Democrat Gazette for over 30 years and his coworkers became family and he was known as Kenny Wayne.
Ken loved working in his yard and could be seen by the neighbors in his big Ol’ Southern man gardening hat. He planted many bulbs and flowering plants to give him something to look forward to throughout the seasons. In the spring feel free to stop by and walk through the garden and remember him.
Ken cared deeply for his community. He worked with RAIN (Regional AIDS Interfaith Network) and Our Lady of Holy Souls Care team. He helped take care of people dying of AIDS; at a time when people, even medical personnel were afraid to touch someone with AIDS.
He started a Sunday School class for Pre-K children at Quapaw Quarter UMC. He was given an empty room and a workbook. Those children are now high school and college students and he was so very proud of them all. Ken volunteered with his children at QQUMC for Stone Soup and Canvas Community, making meals for the homeless and others in need. Believe it or not he was even a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America, except their troop included girls.
Ken prepared this obit long before he knew he was going home. While working for the ADG he enjoyed reading the obituaries, the stories and histories of every day people with legacies untold until they were penned to paper for the world to cherish and honor. In honor of Ken’s wishes a service will not be held at this time due to the pandemic. In honor of his name contributions can be made to our church home Quapaw Quarter UMC (qqumc.org/contact) or to Carti Cancer Center (carti.ejoinme.org/donate) for their love and caring over the last three years and beyond.
