James Edward Munnerlyn, 77, of Lonoke, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 24, 2016, at his home after a valiant and lengthy battle with vascular dementia. James was born January 7, 1939 in Prescott, Arkansas, and his family moved to Lonoke a few years later. James was a lifetime member of Lonoke Baptist Church.
James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Odell Munnerlyn and brother in law, Danny Slaughter. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 59 ½ years, Thelma Schafer Munnerlyn, who was also his primary caregiver; two daughters, Sherri Eskandarian (Farhad), of Beebe; Vicki Lawson (Jimmy), of Lakeland, Tennessee; one son, Mike Munnerlyn (Lynnlee), of Maumelle, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Davis (Joshua), of Beebe, Arkansas; Kelsey Huggins, of Jackson, Mississippi; Schafer Huggins, of Lakeland, Tennessee; Leila Eskandarian, of Beebe, Arkansas; Daniel Eskandarian, of Beebe, Arkansas; Kaylee Munnerlyn, of Maumelle, Arkansas; and Seth Munnerlyn, of Maumelle, Arkansas; two great-grandchildren, Lucas Eskandarian, of Beebe, Arkansas, and Elizabeth Davis, of Beebe, Arkansas; and two sisters, Patricia (Gary) Hoggard, of England, Arkansas, and Sue Slaughter, of Lonoke, Arkansas.
James graduated from Lonoke High School and Nashville Auto-Diesel College. He served in the 125th Medical battalion Arkansas National Guard.
He was an avid archer and bow hunter, winning numerous awards and trophies for his archery skills, and he enjoyed greyhound racing and Razorback sports. James was a retired home restoration contractor.
The family is deeply grateful to the loving and compassionate care provided by Arkansas Hospice.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 7, at 2:00 p.m. at Lonoke Baptist Church, with the memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Arkansas, 201 Markham Center Drive, Little Rock, Arkansas or Lonoke Baptist Church, 406 W. Front Street, Lonoke, Arkansas.
