Daniel Taylor

May 10, 1955 — August 20, 2021

Mena, Arkansas

Daniel Ray Taylor, 66, of Clinton, MO,  who had tired of obituaries noting other's losing their battles of old age or with this or that disease, wanted it known that he lost his battle as a result of fighting a world record halibut in the waters off Seward, Alaska on August 20, 2021.  That’s not what happened, but he would like that to be known.

Dan loved two things in life: fishing and farming.  Over the course of his life, he had many Alaska adventures fishing in the deep waters off the coast of Seward or Homer, floating down the wild streams and catching salmon during their runs.  When he couldn’t go to Alaska, he was fishing wherever the crappie were biting.  Nothing would get him as animated as talking about his last great fishing trip.

Love of farming ran in his blood which is the only reason anybody would be a family farmer anymore.  His livestock were his pets and they loved him as much as he loved them.  Dan enjoyed his daily walks in the pastures to check his herd with his best friend Dakota, a golden retriever, who never left his side day or night.  Dan was also highly gifted in woodworking and metal milling.  His understanding of raw materials, tools and milling exceeded that of most in the field.  He loved the big machines and the ability to use them to create.  His biggest dream was to build a log cabin in the wilds of Alaska with a portable lumber mill.

Dan could easily have lived the life of Dick Proenneke at Twin Lakes Alaska if not for a lifelong health issue.  He was still talking about building that cabin right up to the end.

He was doubtless happy to join his parents Albert & Jean Taylor, his sister Judy and other Loved Ones in Heaven.

Many will miss him here on earth including his lifelong friend, Ann Newland; siblings Steve (& Carolyn) Taylor, David (& Debbie) Taylor, John P. Taylor, Rebecca (& Duane) Dent, Susan (& Johnny) Yu and his beloved Aunts, Uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In his final years Dan made sure all those around him knew his eyes were focused on his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  "That God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believed on Him might not perish but have eternal life."  Dan wants to know, do you know Jesus?  It is the most important decision of your life.

Dan's Memorial Service is pending at this time.
