Wiliam Sontag

d. December 17, 2010

William David Sontag, age 69, of North Little Rock passed away December 17th, 2010. He will be missed by his family and friends. David was born on Dec. 1, 1941 in El Dorado, AR to the late Thomas Emil Sontag and Elva Victoria Sontag. He was preceded in death by seven brothers: Thomas, Howard, L.B., Charles, Kenneth, Robert, and Wayne. Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Shelley and Karl Clampit of Monticello; his son and his wife Kevin and Summer Sontag, and his granddaughter, Gracelyn Sontag, of Little Rock, whom he was so proud of. Three sisters, Hazel Wilson of Little Rock, Carolyn Bolin of Sherril, and Betty Sanders of Mabelvale, many nieces and nephews and his best friend Mike Bledsoe. David had many friends and could make them laugh in an instant with witty comments and a smile. He kept in contact with friends from grade school and from his dancing days on the Steve Show and at the Optimist Club. He particularly enjoyed going to the Optimist Club reunions and dancing again with friends. Another central event in his life was his involvement in the 1957 Little Rock Central High School desegregation crisis involving the ?Little Rock Nine? and Minnie Jean Brown-Trickey specifically. One of the proudest and bravest moments in his life was when he went on the Oprah Winfrey show and apologized to them all for the things that had occurred at that time. David served in the U.S. Army and worked as a barber for many years. He did charity work for Helping Hand and was an avid gardener. David was truly one of a kind and he will be missed. Special thanks to the VA Hospital system and to Arkansas Hospice. Everyone was wonderful and comforting. Family will receive friends at The Bible Church of Little Rock, 19111 Cantrell Road, Little Rock, between 10-11 am, Monday, December 20. Services will begin at 11 am. Officiant will be Timothy A. Senn. In lieu of flowers, send donations to the Humane Society of Pulaski County.
