Vernon Fulmer

September 20, 1939 — September 17, 2015

Vernon “Oz” Asborn Fulmer Jr. age 75 of Quitman, AR died September 17, 2015 after a long battle with cancer and Guillain-Barr+ Syndrome.
He was born in Conway, Arkansas September 20, 1939 the son of Vernon Asborn Fulmer, Sr. and Lillian Lucille (Jones) Fulmer.
Oz attended Conway High School where he excelled in football and track. He went on to earn a football scholarship to Arkansas State Teacher’s College – UCA – and received his degree in business administration. His early career included work in his father’s body shop, service station management, and sales with Industrial Equipment in North Little Rock. Oz’s love for sales transitioned to the furniture industry where his charming and witty personality merited much success and promotion. He ultimately served as district manager with the original Furniture Factory Outlet (FFO) and received the company’s lifetime achievement award after retirement.
Aside from the Cowboys and Razorbacks, fishing was Oz’s passion and favorite pastime whether in local lakes or the roaring streams of Alaska. With his close friend and business partner, Ray Whitmire, he had many exciting expeditions in Venezuela, Brazil, Mexico and Cuba. Also known as ‘PeePaw’, he created many fishing enthusiasts among his friends, children and grandchildren.
We celebrate and remember the man who was selfless, generous, and provided well for his family. As long as he had an audience, he always had a colorful story or joke to share.
Oz was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry Don Fulmer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Betty DeVere Fulmer; son Scott Fulmer, daughters Stacy Fulmer and Dea (David) Furrow, sister Janice Tittle, and brother David (Carol) Fulmer. PeePaw will be missed by his step-son, Brad Womack, step-daughter Wendy See, and loving grandchildren.
