Venita Joyce Bishop

May 26, 1937 — December 27, 2024

Benton, Arkansas

Venita Bishop, 87, of Benton, Arkansas, passed away on December 27, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Irene McDonald; her son, Johnny Bishop; her siblings, Martha Conway, Robert McDonald, Ann Bivens, Ruth Jackson, Alice Krobot, Eddie McDonald, and her former husband Roy Bishop. She is survived by her daughter, Roya Bishop Lloyd and her husband Jim; her grandchildren, Chelsea Bishop Ward and her husband Steve, David Lloyd, and Colleen Lloyd; and her great grandchildren Addison and Brady Ward.

Venita was born on May 26, 1937. She lived a full life. Her jobs throughout the years included being a reporter and weekly columnist for a local newspaper, working as a proofer in the Arkansas State House of Representatives, helping her husband with his restaurants, selling Real Estate as a licensed agent, and being an awesome mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a former First Lady of Bryant, Arkansas.

Besides her family, her lifelong passion was writing. Venita began her writing career in grade school, winning a poem-writing contest. Her imagination was fostered by her older siblings who made up stories at bedtime and filled the family basement with pretend ‘mansions’ they fashioned out of crates and cardboard boxes. The furnishings in their mansions were scraps of wood decorated with material from their mother’s sewing machine, with the paper-dolls carefully cut from Simplicity pattern books. And despite being told she was too young to join them, Venita listened raptly to their make-believe stories and silently created her own.

Venita continued to write throughout her life. She wrote dozens of books, three of which are still available today on Amazon.

Per Venita’s request, there will be no memorial service.
