Shirley Douglass

d. September 21, 2017

Shirley Douglass joined our Heavenly Father on her 75th birthday, September 20, 2017. She passed away in the loving care of her family and the wonderful team at Hospice Homecare. She was born in 1942 to Clifton and Oleta Hurst, in Morrilton, Arkansas.

Shirley had many roles in her life; wife, mother, business owner, and mentor. She owned a health food store, an antique business, and later in life took on a role at UAMS in Little Rock. This was perhaps the job that provided the greatest satisfaction due to her ability to make an impact on the lives of others. She found great joy in the comfort, support, and hope she was able to provide to women who faced difficult times, similar to hers. She was the eternal optimist, and always looked for the rainbow at the end of the "storm".

Shirley was a great friend and neighbor who was always there for others. Her love was tender, but she called it like she saw it and was resolve in her convictions. She was a merciful woman who showed compassion, which often led her to help others and even rescue a number of pets from shelters. Outdoors is where Shirley felt most energized, and she could spend hours working in the yard. She would also make an occasional trip to Hot Springs, where she would spend the day searching for quartz and other minerals. Last but not least, Shirley had an eye for quality antiques and was always in search of hidden treasures.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Billy; three children, David Green of Jacksonville, Arkansas; Brian Green of Devon, Pennsylvania; and Michael Douglass of Oak Grove, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Amber, Aidan, and Jennifer; and sister-in-law Bonnie Douglass.

Memorial Service will be at Rose Hill Church of the Nazarene on Saturday September 23, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with interment at the Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery Tuesday, September 26 at 10:00am.
