Richard Kuelpman, 86, survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Jean (nee Sherwin), his son Dave (Laurie) and daughter Janet (Mark) Burt, his grandsons Alex, Michael, Matt, Nick, and his brother Doug (Annell).
Born in Tacoma, Washington, Dick grew up in Spokane, Washington where he graduated from North Central High School. He received a business degree from Washington State in 1954 where he participated in ROTC, enjoyed singing in a barbershop quartet with his Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity brothers, served as assistant manager of the basketball team, played golf and handball. After college he worked for GMAC in Spokane. Dick then served as an officer in the US Air Force in Cheyenne, WY in 1956 before he was assigned to Dyess Air Force base, in Abilene TX in December 1956. As a First Lieutenant, he was honorably discharged from the Air Force in March 1958. He then started his career with Ralston Purina Company, where he worked from 1958-74. His last position with Ralston was Division Vice President of Dairy Foods Systems. Before moving to Little Rock, Dick and Jean lived in various cities including Spokane, WA, Kansas City, KS, Sioux City, IA, St. Louis, MO, Champaign IL and Olympia Fields, IL.
Dick was an avid Cardinals baseball fan, and will also be remembered as a proud grandpa, gifted piano player and expert card player.
A private celebration of his life will follow in Chicago this summer.
