Rebecca Sharlene Hall Leslie, 63 of Benton, AR went to be with her Savior and Lord after passing away peacefully in her home on May 3, 2024.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Beulah Hall.
She is survived by her husband Joe Leslie, her brother (Bubba) Scott Hall, several cousins, daughters Ada Aiken (John), April Meridith (Michael), sons Joey Leslie and James Leslie (Kaci), many grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by Gerri Nelson, whom she lovingly referred to as her Mama.
Rebecca loved many things but mostly she loved The Lord. She was saved at 14 years of age and by her testimony, she never doubted her salvation, not one time. She shared her faith with many, having the privilege of leading some to a saving faith in Christ. She was a faithful member of Congo Road Baptist Church and the Esther Gatlin Sunday School Class. Many at this church have said they attended there because of her invitation to them to come to church with her.
She was married to Joe for 31 years. It would have been 32 later this month. In the past 1-1/2 years, she leaned on him more than ever in their marriage. During this time, they both grew so close to one another. He held her hand while she passed into the arms of Jesus.
She loved music. She attended many music/folk festivals in Mountain View, AR. She could play multiple instruments but her biggest love was the Dulcimer. She loved all sorts of music, but gospel music was her favorite. She enjoyed 5th Sunday singing at the church. She would even sing solo and duet specials at church. She had an angelic voice.
Another love was her love for the outdoors. She enjoyed God’s creation. It was not uncommon to get a message from her with a picture of a beautiful sunset, mountains, streams of water, etc. She loved butterflies, flowers, and all kinds of animals. She would follow the text with a message of the count of deer, turkey, and on one occasion, bear that her and her husband would see when driving in the Ouachita mountains. This was one of their favorite places to go together. I think they felt close to each other and to God.
She can be remembered by the pets she has had. Her recent special favorite is Annie, her cat. She loved Annie. So many who knew her tell of all sorts of animals, reptiles, spider stories, etc.. She was a caregiver to many people. Starting out, she worked at a local hospital caring for the sick. Then she had the opportunity to take care of a young lady with special needs, Rachel. She
loved Rachel. She found her calling with Rachel. Afterwards, she began to care for the elderly. She was always so patient with both Rachel and the elderly. Many believe she would still be caring for the elderly had she not gotten sick first.
Friendship was a lifelong commitment to her. If she called you friend, then it was binding in her eyes. Even when she had not spoken to you in a long time, she could pick right up where she last left off. She would do anything for her friends. In addition to many church friends, she had life long friendship with Lessa, Carol, Michelle, and Laurie.
She also had a funny side to her. She had a free spirit. It’s not hard to find a goofy picture of her. She would often be the one to send it to you, just so you would smile. Early in life she owned a motorcycle and loved riding it. Just recently she inquired about another one.
In the past 1-1/2 years, she loved another group of people. That was Dr. Makhoul, his nurse, Paige, in addition to all the staff at CARTI in Little Rock. They were wonderful to her.
In her words, she did not want ‘a sappy funeral’. She insisted on having a Celebration of Life at her Church. During this time, she requested songs of joy to be sung to her (our) Lord. One of her favorite songs is ‘I’ll fly away (on a Harley)’….. If you knew her, you would understand this.
She will be extremely missed. If you want to see her again, you will have to make those arrangements now while living on earth. She did. She professed Jesus as her Savior. If you do the same, you will see her again.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that a donation be made to CARTI in her memory.
Arrangements by Arkansas Cremation, 10515 W Markham St, Ste B1, Little Rock, AR 72205.
