Rebecca Erwin

Rebecca Erwin, a devoted mother, grandmother, and spirited woman with a zest for life and sarcastic banter, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2024 at the age of 83.  

Rebecca will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, John Kizer Mergenschoer (wife Laurel) and Jay Mergenschroer (wife Betsi), her two grandchildren, Noah and Josi, and niece Thoma Thacker who brought her immense joy. Family was everything to Rebecca, cherishing time spent with her loved ones; whether it was basking in the sun on the back deck, sharing lunch with family and friends, or nurturing her grandchildren's growth.  

With an adventurous spirit and mischievous twinkle in her eye, Rebecca had a knack for drawing others into fun, including memorable adventures that pushed boundaries just enough to create lasting stories. At her core, though, Rebecca was a homebody who found comfort in familiar surroundings and people.

Rebecca will forever be in memories for her famous chicken rice casserole, special handshakes, the many late night talks about teen life today, and the pure love she had for her family dogs, Lily and Biscuit. Along with her love for mystery books, the colors blue and yellow, and looking after those she cared for. Through both trying times and joyful celebrations, Rebecca's caring heart and ability to make others feel special, defined her beautifully complex character.

A private family service will be held to honor Rebecca's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local animal shelter in her memory.
