Martin Earl Thomas passed peacefully on August 19, 2021.
While it may have been peaceful on this side, there was a joyful homecoming celebration in heaven as he was reunited with his parents Chester E. and Arkie Kerlan Thomas and sisters Carol Heuer, Faith Brackett, and Katie Jane Harmon and brothers Stanley Thomas and Said Thomas. Martin was born in Almond, Arkansas on September 4, 1937, the youngest of six who grew up in the small town of Concord.
Though he left his small-town roots to spread his wings, his heart never left his big family.
Martin joined the Air Force in 1957 where he taught radar electronics. He was stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi where he began his love of the beach. Martin married his first wife Melissa and had two beautiful daughters, Suzanne Buice (Chris) and Teresa Sybrandt (John). His daughters blessed him with four grandkids and three great grandchildren. Suzanne’s children are Christopher (Amber) Watkins-Lamb and Sally Buice. Teresa’s children are Kari Parker (Bryce) and JT Sybrandt.
Martin married Phyllis Ann Youngman Rogers on July 12, 1985. Phyllis had two boys, J.P. Rogers (Mary Beth) and Philip Thomas (Karen). Martin was a wonderful grandfather to JP’s sons John and Eric and Philip’s children, Elliot, Mitchel and Kendal.
Martin was a quiet gentleman but if you were special to him, you knew it. Martin was an avid reader and could usually be found reading on his back porch. Martin had a firm understanding of the important things in life like Razorback football, good scotch and living life with those you love the most.
Martin and Phyllis owned PRN Pharmacy Systems. Together they spent 36 years building a successful business while enjoying traveling, cookouts and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis, two daughters, two sons, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Don Heuer, sister-in-law Annette Thomas and a host of nieces and nephews who lovingly called him Uncle Mart.
A celebration of life will be held on his birthday, September 4, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. First Presbyterian Church, 800 Scott Street in Little Rock. As an expression of sympathy, memorials can be made to Alzheimer’s Arkansas, 201 Markham Center Drive, Little Rock, AR 72205 or place a bet on your favorite pony at Oaklawn in his memory.
