Ingeburg LUISE Gerbig Joseph was born in Duisburg-Hamborn (Meiderich), Germany on December 19, 1932 and passed away January 7, 2024, in Little Rock Arkansas. After surviving WWII and establishing a career path, Luise moved from Wiesbaden, Germany to Dayton, Ohio in 1957 to earn her United States citizenship. One too many cold, snowy days prompted her to resign her current employment, board a plane to Oahu, Hawaii where for the next forty years she immersed herself in the culture and embodied the Aloha spirit.
Luika (her adopted Hawaiian name) was fiercely independent and liked being the boss of things. She was extremely passionate about NFL football (Packers), music, entertaining, cooking, creating a home that oozed hygge and bringing folks together to laugh. She will be remembered by a kind spirit, giggles and gutsy laughs.
On Oahu, Luise worked for Frito-Lay of Hawaii for 16 years as Controller and 21 years in various accounting positions with McNeil Wilson Communications/Laird Christianson Advertising/Anthology Marketing Group.
Preceded in death mothers Charlotte Lesser Gerbig and Wilhelmine Kerkhoff Gerbig, father Walter Johannes Gerbig and brother Bodo Juergen Gerbig. She is survived by sister Nicole Gerbig Sievert (Stefan), sister-in-law Pamela Gerbig, nieces Sarita Gerbig (Carolyn) and Tosca Gerbig-Lee; nephews, Bodo Gerbig (Gayla), Yannick and Marvin Sievert; and great nieces and nephews.
In memory of “Luika”, Sarita Gerbig and Carolyn Kimble, caregivers for the past seven years, would like you to listen to Auntie’s favorite song “Aloha Is” by Moe Keale and raise a glass to life well lived! Aloha ‘Oe, Auntie.
