Kathleen was a proud member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and a descendant of the George Pettifer Family.
Kathleen graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1990 and received an Associate’s Degree from Pulaski Technical College. In 2014, while a Senior and making the Chancellors list at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, when she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. Kathleen and her family cannot say enough for the efforts of the Doctors and Nurses at The University of Arkansas Medical Center for the great care they provided and the Arkansas Hospice nurses in her final days.
Kathleen moved in so many circles. Some knew her as the Plant Lady (your office plants never looked better). Most knew her from her many years in the Hospitality Industry. She served the best food in Little Rock to New Orleans to Martha’s Vineyard. She was a volunteer for the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, worked in the gardens of Dunbar Gardens in Little Rock, Arkansas and was a proud alumna of AmeriCorps where she also worked in the gardens, Petit Jean State Park & Winrock International and at Heifer Ranch in Perry County, Arkansas. Her volunteerism knew no bounds and reflected her love of feeding folks and growing anything green, flowering or edible.
Kathleen had many hobbies, and things were more fun & prettier if they involved glitter & sequins. Books were her favorite hobby, and she always had a book in her hand or by her side – probably two or three. She was a creative person that loved to write, tell you what for, paint, decorate, cook, dig in the dirt, and create happy places. As here badass Roller Derby persona, Schadenfreude, she hip-whipped with the best of them—all while mentoring, coaching, and inspiring.
Kathleen leaves behind a vast web of friends who will miss that fierce Schadenfreude of the Roller Derby, that clever waitress who knew exactly what you wanted & needed even if you didn’t. Provocative in every sense of the word. A purveyor of dangerous magic’s and a quiet dispenser of truth bombs. A side-splittingly funny pixie with the best words. The most devoted daughter, sister, and friend. Kathleen will live in our hearts and minds forever.
A memorial gathering on a date to be announced will be held for Kathleen at Petit Jean State Park where she requested that her ashes be spread.
