Jimmie Ray Mayes, 85, Hot Springs, Arkansas died July 26. He was born September 8, 1931, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Jim is survived by his wife, Judy Fergusson Mayes; his four children, Mark (Susan Baldridge), Bisbee, Arizona; Dwight, Sparks, Nevada; Melissa, Metairie, Louisiana; Scott (Kelly Kreider), Metairie; and three grandchildren, Lauren, Nanaimo, British Columbia; Alec, Durango, Colorado; and Lilly, Metairie. He received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Texas Tech and retired as a senior vice-president from Walk, Haydel, and Associates, Consulting Engineers in New Orleans. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in Texas and Louisiana and was a member of several professional engineering organizations. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in New Orleans for many years. After moving to Hot Springs, he was a member of the National Park Rotary Club and participated in many other volunteer organizations, including the former St. Joseph’s Hospital, Literacy Council, and First United Methodist Church. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, August 12 at 10:30 am at First United Methodist Church, Hot Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
