Jerry Vasco Lawrence Sr was born to Wendel Claude Lawrence and Averice Elizabeth Lawrence on June 24, 1941. He grew up in the Double Wells community. As a young boy, Jerry found joy in raising hogs. He was a member of the 1959 graduating class from Watson Chapel High School in Pine Bluff.
Jerry served in the Army Reserves, working as a mechanic in the motor pool, where he made the rank of E5 sergeant. Jerry also worked for Illinois Tool, where he retired in 2001. He was a past member of the Taylor Lodge located in Grapevine Arkansas, where he reached the level of Worshipful Master.
Jerry had a love for history and genealogy. He was a member of several historical societies and groups, where he had held several local, state, and national offices. He loved doing research and giving presentations to help people learn about their local history.
Jerry was a member of Sardis Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed studying God's word and learning more about church doctrine.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, DeeLois Lawrence, his daughter BeeLinda Temple, sons Jerry Lawrence Jr. and Jason Lawrence (Pam), Grandchildren Oren "Orry" Ginn, Jeri Elizabeth (Jeribeth) Miller, Abby Lawrence, Avery Lawrence, and 6 great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service for Jerry on Saturday, November the 9th at 2 pm with visitation proceeding.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Jerry's honor to Sardis Missionary Baptist Church (PO Box 60 Grapevine, Arkansas, 72057).
