James O’Daniel Penn, age79, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018 from complications of Parkinson’s disease at his Hot Springs Arkansas home with his family by his side. The eighth child out of ten children, James was born October 11, 1938 in Scurry, Texas to James & Myrtle Penn.
In 1958 James graduated from Crozier Tech High School in Dallas, Texas where he was a three year Football Letterman, Baseball Letterman, 4B President, 4A Most Athletic, SGA and Jr Rotarian. He joined the Coast Guard in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1962. James worked for 40 years as an X-Ray Technician for RP Kincheloe all over the Tyler/East Texas area, where he was praised by the hospitals for going above and beyond what was expected of him. He was an avid dart champion and loved to play 42. James enjoyed the opportunity to dance and attend the horse races at Oaklawn, but most of all he loved his family and was a devoted father, loving brother and son.
He is survived by his children; JR Smith of Frankston, Texas, Christa Penn of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Brandon Penn of Tyler, Texas; one brother, Kenneth Penn of Dallas, Texas.
James was preceded in death by his sisters, Imogene Wilson, Dixie Benton, Virginia Till, Faye Hartline, Fern Gossett, Ann Keaton, Carolyn Penn and brother JT Penn.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 2:00pm at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas.
