James Byron Locke, 67, of Little Rock, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024. The eldest son of the late Cecil D. and Stella K. Locke (Chapman), he is survived by his son, Alfred B. Locke, granddaughter, Scarlet J. Locke, brother Dwight Locke, sister Lynda L. Mace (Locke), her husband Noel, their daughters Katelyn Mace and Madison Mace, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A sister, Karen Frances Mooar (Locke) preceded him in death.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1982, and his varied career included stints as a cook, restaurant manager, inventory taker, phlebotomist, and retail store worker.
As early as the 1970s, he saw the potential of solar energy and dreamed of building an earth-sheltered home. His interests included ultra-light aircraft and organic gardening, and he loved exploring the forests, rivers, and streams of Arkansas. He was never happier than when he was reeling in a rainbow trout.
Arrangements for a private memorial service later will be made later.
