George Gray Major Jr., of Little Rock, AR, passed away on Wednesday December 6, 2017 at the age of 74. George was born to parents George Gray Major Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Mackey Major in Little Rock, AR. He graduated Little Rock Central High in 1961. He served honorably in the Arkansas National Guard. He retired from Arkansas Highway Department after 37 years of service. During 50 plus years in Scouting as an Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow and Troop Leader, he instructed many young men in crafts, wood lore, and citizenship. He received the Community Service award from Little Rock in 1978 for his work in Scouting. He was a long time member of Lone Star Hethuska War Dance Society, where annual dances provide fellowship, history and assistance to widows and orphans of the Native American Community. He was also on the Board of the Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest providing Scholarships to World Champion Duck Callers. George married Anita Neal Gray Major in 1991. He is survived by his wife, Anita, step-sons, Joe, Tony, and Kevin, and his daughter, Becky, and son John, fifteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday December 12, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Little Rock, AR. The family is grateful for condolences but requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lone Star War Dance Society, 4010 Gatewood, Street, Amarillo, TX 79109 (checks made out to David Woodall).
