Dwight Herman Estes- dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend- was born July 21st, 1950, to Charles Herman and Clara Guess Estes of Little Rock, AR. He crossed over to be with Jesus on July 12, 2024.
Dwight’s life was one of love, commitment, and service. His personal life was marked by a deep love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This love affected every aspect of his life and has been passed on to his family and to those who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
Dwight graduated from Central High School in 1968 and continued his education at the University of Arkansas where he followed in his father’s footsteps studying accounting. He then earned the title of a Certified Public Accountant and began working alongside his parents in the family business, C. H. Estes & Company. He later took it over and established Estes & Company. Dwight was a life member of the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants (ASCPA), serving 21 years on the Student Education Fund with many titles including, Director, Treasurer, Vice President, and President. He also had the honor of serving on behalf of the ASCPA as a delegate in Washington D. C.
Dwight was a longtime member of Little Rock’s First Baptist Church where he met and married his wife, Cheryl in 1979. He served the church in many ways as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and member of the orchestra. One of the church’s primary missions is the Baptist Preparatory School (formerly known as Arkansas Baptist School System) where he served on the School Board for several years.
From an early age, Dwight loved playing the trumpet. He was the drum major and first chair trumpet player during his time at Central High School. He then went on to play in the Razorback Marching Band where he earned those same titles, serving as the drum major for the Razorbacks from 1970-1972. One of his favorite traditions was First Baptist Church’s Living Christmas Tree where he was well known for his trumpet solo in “Sleigh Ride.”
Dwight took great joy in his and Cheryl’s large family, especially his 10 grandchildren who could always put a smile on his face. He was committed to his family in every way and leaves a wonderful example as a husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cheryl Holcomb Estes and his six children: his son John (Brooke) Estes, and their children: Micah, Abby Joy, and Caleb of Rogers, AR; his daughter Catherine of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; his daughter Holly (Chase) Erwin and their children, Asher, Isabella, and Ezekiel of Little Rock, AR; his son Joshua (Bethany) Estes and their daughter Eloise of Little Rock, AR; his son Andrew (Elizabeth) Estes and their children Ezra and Oliver of Little Rock, AR; and his daughter Hannah (Corbin) Hull and their son Isaac of Little Rock, AR.
