Donald McIver

September 22, 1948 — May 21, 2021

Little Rock, Arkansas

Donald Gale McIver, age 72, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021, with family by his side.  Don was known as “Country” to his friends, “Uncle Duck” to his nieces and nephews, but his favorite name was given to him by his grandson, Bailey, who called him “Pop”.

Don was born in Hope, Arkansas, on September 22, 1948.  After growing up on a farm and graduating from Guernsey High School, Don went on to be a Veteran of the United States Air Force, a Master Electrician, and a teacher for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.  He enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes, riding his motorcycle, and joking around with friends and family. Don had a quick wit and a playful personality.  Within minutes of meeting him, he would have already given you a nickname whether you wanted one or not.

If you asked a hundred people who Donald McIver was, they would all give you a different answer with a story to follow. As a kid, Ryan thought his dad was a superhero.  To his sister, Jan, he was her strong rock.  To his grandson, Bailey, he was a best friend.  To us, Don was all of these and more.  While we place our memories of Don in our hearts, we must remember that it is those stories that connect us and allow us to celebrate his life.

Don was preceded in death by his stepson, Michael Squires; his parents, Earley and Lillian Mae McIver; sisters, Betty McCorkle and Carolyn McIver; brother, Vincent “Bud” McIver; twin brother, Ronald McIver; and his loyal dog, Stubby.

Don is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Becky McIver of Little Rock, Arkansas; grandchildren, Bailey and Olivia McIver and great-grandson, Cohen McIver, all of Sheridan, Arkansas; two sisters, Mary Roberts of Hensley, Arkansas and Janice Brown of Foristell, Missouri; and many loving nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
