Carolyn Hunter

Carol King Hunter (Songer), 83, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. She is survived by her children, Sheila King, Matthew King, John King, Victoria King; step-children, Lynn Thomas, Blaine King, Marc King; grandchildren, Brooke King, Miranda Stancil, Michaela King, Violet King; great-grandchildren, Liam Stancil, Oaklyn King, Willow King; one brother, Chris Songer. She is also survived by a number of pets; Deacon, Ryane, Jones, Jamie and Luci.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry W Hunter. her mother, Jewel Brookey Songer Talley, three brothers, Melvin, Tommy and Larry, and one sister, Cindy; former husband, Louis B. “Dusty” King.

In the 1970’s, Carol went from a stay-at-home mom to a newspaper photographer for the Daily Sifting Herald of Arkadelphia. She also worked with local and state law enforcement taking accident and crime scene photos. Carol gained recognition as an excellent sports photographer with her coverage of local high school and college sports, as well as NCAA tournaments held at Henderson State University and Ouachita Baptist University.

She retired from the newspaper in the 1980’s when she and Jerry moved to Perry County on Harris Brake Lake. An avid gardener, her yard was filled with flowers. She loved taking pictures of nature as it bloomed outside her windows.

She will be sorely missed by all that knew her, and most especially her family.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter. At her request, services will be private.
