Carla Nan Carter, age 72, passed away on December 12, 2017 at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock, Arkansas. Nan, as she was affectionately called, was born September 21, 1945 in Crossett, Arkansas to Ernest Martin and Bernice Atkins.
Nan was preceded in death by her parents in 1982; a daughter, Mary Robin Smith, in 2013; her husband, James F. (Jim) Carter in 2001; and a brother, Ronnie Atkins, in 2011.
Nan is survived by a sister, Deanna Smith, and her husband Will of Utah; a brother, Tim Atkins, and his wife Leisha of Monticello; two grandchildren - Katherine Michelle Tate, and her husband Ben of Star City and Sean Edward Harmon of Dumas. Nan is also survived by two "great" grandchildren: Gauge Phillips and Elena Tate, and a sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Atkins of Crossett. She is survived by a special son-in-law and caregiver, Mike Smith of Monticello, as well as by a host of friends.
Nan had a strong faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Monticello. Nan loved her friends, family, and church. She will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service was held Thursday, December 14th at Immanuel Baptist Church in Monticello, Arkansas with Rev. Zan Pierce as the officiant. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Union Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
