Alvin “Conley” Cox Jr. of Little Rock passed away peacefully at his home on August 5th at the age of 77. Conley was born August 15th, 1946 in West Point, Mississippi to the late Naomi and Conley Cox. He attended The University of Mississippi before discovering his passion working in the service industry and relocating to Little Rock, Arkansas.
Conley leaves behind his two daughters Katie Henderson (Jaron Henderson) of Conway, Arkansas and Emily Cox (James Moorman) of Covington, Louisiana. He is also survived by his sister Mary Claire Russo of Mobile, Alabama, several nieces and nephews, as well as many friends whom he considered family.
Conley was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity at Ole Miss and always spoke highly of his brothers. He was a force to be reckoned with and spent his life advocating for the next right thing. He was a strong leader, hard worker, and genuine man. These qualities carried over in all that he did during his career in the restaurant/bar business.
Of all his accomplishments in life, being Katie and Emily’s dad was the thing he was most proud of. He never missed a school function, ball game, swim meet or volunteer opportunity for his girls. It has been said, “He was the best room “mom” their teachers encountered.”
Conley always preferred the simpler things in life. To respect his wishes, the girls will not be hosting a formal service but a celebration of life instead. The celebration will take place at the White Water Tavern on Saturday August 10th from 1-3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Arborday.org. Protecting the earth, and specifically the trees, was always near and dear to his heart.
