Allan Young

March 8, 1949 — September 18, 2024

Sherwood, Arkansas

Allan Young, beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 18th, 2024, at 5:22 pm in Sherwood, Arkansas. Born in Salford, Manchester, England on March 8th, 1949, Allan lived a life filled with music, family, and adventure.

Allan was a gifted pianist, often playing for the United Methodist Church and bringing joy to his loved ones with his music. His talents and warm spirit will be deeply missed.

He follows in death his wife, Martha Young, and his parents, Walter and Joan Young. Allan is survived by his two sons, Barry Young and Paul Young (husband, Mateo Young); his sister, Janice Mahon; his nephew, David Mahon; and his cherished dog, Teddy, who remained a faithful companion throughout Allan’s life.

In the 1960s, Allan made the journey from England to the United States, where he embarked on a varied and fulfilling career. He worked in retail, air conditioning service, and as an electrician, later dedicating his life to helping children as a dorm parent alongside his wife at Buckner's Children's Home in Dallas and Pythian Home in Weatherford, Texas.

Allan's journey then took him to New Galloway, Scotland, where he owned and operated a family hotel. After selling the hotel, he continued his work in caregiving at nursing homes in Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie. He cherished the time spent on his family farm, Woodside, in Scotland, before eventually moving to Sherwood, Arkansas, where he lived out his final days surrounded by those he loved.

Allan's legacy of love, music, and dedication to family and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, including his loyal dog, Teddy.
