Roger Dale Bailey, age 75, of Lonoke, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 7, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Roger was born January 21, 1947, in Scott, Arkansas, to the late William Madison Bailey and Willie Cordelia Fleming Bailey. He attended school at Plum Bayou Wright. He married Shirley Dian Burton on May 7, 1966. Employed as a foreman by Mattisa Rail Welding Company, he and Shirley traveled the United States. In 1976, Roger began his career as an electrician in the oilfield industry, which provided the means for him to travel the world. He and Shirley founded Rig-Up Electrical Services in Houston, Texas, in 1998 and England Oilfield Services in 2006. Together they employed more than 200.
Roger was an avid hunter and enjoyed showing horses with his granddaughter, gardening, and canning. He always shared much of his bounty with friends and family. Not many escaped his generosity. He loved children and was known for sponsoring children’s sports, 4H events, Jake’s day, and events to support Open Arms Shelter in Lonoke, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Elbert Bailey, William (Bud) Bailey, Morris Bailey, Lloyd Bailey, and Homer Adams, and sisters, Lucille Holter, Virginia Hooper, Sylvia Ross, Lillian Jane Krebs, and Wanda Turner. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Bailey; children Karen (Michael) Minnie of Lonoke, Arkansas, Melissa (Daniel) Andrews of Scott, Arkansas, Jeffrey (Miryam) Bailey of Costa Rica; sister Jean Craib of California; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and many other friends and family.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, December 29, at Central Baptist Church, 5200 Fairway Ave., North Little Rock, AR, 72116. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Open Arms Shelter, 1500 Navajo Trail, Lonoke, Arkansas 72086.
Honorary pallbearers include Jerry King, Billy Whitfield, Jay Morton, Jay Morganstern, Travis Jinks, and Russell Martin.
