Michael Lacewell

Michael Christian Lacewell, 46 of El Dorado, Arkansas left his earthly home and entered his heavenly home January 21, 2022, at St. Vincent hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.

He was born May 2, 1975, in El Dorado, Arkansas. The last child of Marilyn Louise Lacewell who passed away in 1986, he was then adopted by his grandparents, Rex and Elizabeth Lacewell of El Dorado, Arkansas. Michael's early childhood was filled with trips of camping throughout the Natural State of Arkansas with his mother, grandparents, and family. His love of camping led to many outdoor adventures in his early adult life such as climbing Mount Fuji in Japan, organizing abseiling tours, hikes in Australia, Guam, Hawaii, and many other countries. He also applied and was accepted into a two-week Space Camp with NASA when he was 13 years old. To say he lived an adventurous life is understated.

Michael graduated from El Dorado High School 1993. Many people and customers will remember Michael when in his teen years he was employed with Brookshires Grocery Company as a cashier, then promoted to office cashier/service trainer from 1991-1997. He followed in his beloved late grandfather, Rex's footsteps when he then enlisted in the United States Navy in May 1997, which led him to adventures all over the world. Michael was recruited and stationed on a US Navy top secret intelligence submarine, USS Seawolf based in Bremerton, Washington. He was sent to specialized school to be a US Navy Cryptologic Technician, where he processed, sent, and received top secret communication reports. While stationed on the submarine, he was only allowed to inform/contact his family whenever he was in a NATO port. He was later recruited and stationed on the USS Blue Ridge which is the command lead flagship of the 7th fleet, which carries the admiral and six senior officials which was a high honor to serve the high-ranking officials. Michael was medically discharged from the Navy in January 2003 due to a heart condition which resulted from the charcoal filtration he experienced while on the submarine. In August 2003 he attended Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, while at the same time fulfilling an internship at the University. In 2008 he graduated with a computer programming degree where he then secured a position with Global Net Access in Dallas, Texas.

After the passing of his beloved sister, Tina, Michael returned to El Dorado to help care for her teenage son in 2010. That led him to be employed at the El Dorado Police Department where he worked as a 911 dispatcher, then with Pafford EMS in Hope, Arkansas.  He put his career on hold for several years to move in with his sister, Sheri, and her family to help care for his elderly grandmother before her recent passing a few months ago. After the passing of his grandmother, Michael joined the Union County Sheriff's Office 911 dispatch by request of Sheriff Roberts. Michael enjoyed working with and appreciated his colleagues at the UCSO, especially Pam Westbrook. Michael loved helping people and had a servant's heart.

Michael is survived by his sister, Sheri Lacewell Smith (Tommy), niece, Haley Runnels (Andrew), nephews, Malakai and Franklin Runnels, nephew Nolan Crall, all of El Dorado, Arkansas; his sister, Kristi Lacewell Killam, niece, Memory Faris (Gino) and nephew, Luigi; niece, Summer Faris (Ezekiel) and niece, Violet; nephews, Hunter Killam and Gunner Killam, all of Southern California; and niece, Madison Crall, of Austin, Texas. Michael also leaves behind a host of beloved extended family members and special friends including Greg Edwards of Dubai and Ashley Hendricks Windham of Oxford, Mississippi.

A Celebration of Life for Michael will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Cross Life Church, 1010 Combs, El Dorado, Arkansas, at 2:00 pm with Pastors Chester Passmore III, Rev. Tommy Freeman and Sheriff Ricky Roberts.  A visitation will be held at 1:00 pm in the church sanctuary prior to the service.

Michael will be remembered by his family and friends for his compassionate heart, vivacious personality, and a strong love of family, friends and animals. He never met a stranger and had a laugh that could lift your spirit.
