Jr. Boothman

Richard S Boothman Jr, 66, of Little Rock, passed away February 13, 2014, from complications of Alzheimer’s. He was born July 26th, 1947 in Hot Springs to the late Richard Sr and Jimmie Sue Holland Boothman. He is survived by his son, Richard III and wife Karyn; his daughter, Brittany Plouch and husband JW; Grandsons, Korben and Kent Boothman, Philip and Jarrod Plouch; Granddaughters, Jill and Lori Sharkey; Sister Susan King and husband Raymond; Brother, James Boothman and wife Jane; and many other family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on March 21, 2014, at First Christian Church of Little Rock, AR. Affectionately known as Rick, he grew up in Hot Springs where he graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1965. With the assistance of an Army ROTC Scholarship at Henderson State University, he graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Sociology. Upon graduation he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry branch of the United States Army. He served in the United States Army from 1969-1975, attaining the rank of Captain. After his service, he returned home to Arkansas. He started working at Arkansas Farm Bureau until his retirement in 2003. He was very active in his children’s lives. Rick coached soccer teams and was involved in his church serving as sponsor for numerous youth activities. His other loves included military history, photography, and music. In 2000, he took the next step of parenthood and became a proud grandfather to two new grandsons born five months apart in the same year. His grandchildren called him "Papa Rick" and he loved teasing them and making them laugh. When Rick became ill later in life, he came to live at the VA/NLR Ft Roots hospital. There the wonderful staff took a great liking to "Boothman" and loved having him around. Rick loved to sing songs with them, even though he could barely speak. They treated him with respect and dignity as if he were family. Rick’s family is thankful that he found a place where he was happy till the end. Dad and Papa Rick will be remembered fondly as someone who would always laugh at a joke, be the first to smile in a group, sit with you to watch ANY war movie, cheer loudly at every event for his children, show up when he was needed with a single call, and love his children unconditionally. To the very end, all you had to do was say "AIRBORNE", and he would proudly raise his hand. We love you very much and will miss you every day until we meet again.
