Dr. Lewis Hyde

Lewis Waldon “Bud” Hyde transitioned from this lifetime on the dawn of a new year, January 1, 2023. He was born to Lewis and Janie Hyde in Shreveport, LA on February 23, 1936. He grew up there, working multiple jobs while attending school. He did ROTC boot camp prior to his high school graduation and joined the Navy in 1954. By that time he was already a journeyman butcher, learned from working in his uncle’s butcher shop after school for years - while
throwing papers in the morning and making ice cream at night. On his way home from California after his discharge from the Navy, riding with his aunt and uncle back to Shreveport, their car was hit head on. Bud’s back was crushed, which turned out to define the rest of his life in multiple ways. Because he could not work as a butcher as he had planned, in time and still in a brace, he used his GI bill to attend LSU. He had never anticipated attending college but he eventually earned three degrees and spent his professional lifetime as a psychotherapist. He initially moved to Little Rock, Arkansas to work at the University of
Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1963. He entered Private Practice in 1965 with two Psychiatrists and a Psychologist which grew into the Arkansas Psychiatric Clinic. In 1979 he also established a separate clinic, Psychotherapy Associates, and practiced there until 2014. In 1958 Bud married his first wife Mary, and they had four wonderful children and nine grandchildren who all survive him: Danette Post, (Keith) and their children, Keri Post, Anne Marie Boose, and Kathryn Post; Jeffrey Hyde, (Mary) and their children, Whit and Mary Katherine Hyde; Janna Crandall and her sons Clay and Chad Crandall; Sharon Pflieger (Kevin)
and their children Owen and Kate Pflieger. Bud is also survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Kandy McElwaine Hyde.
Also left to miss him are his two beloved rescue pups, Nado and Ella. Bud suffered lifelong severe back pain as well as Essential Tremor from childhood on but he persevered.

Bud was love. Love and kindness permeated his beliefs and his existence always. He loved his family immeasurably, he loved his friends and colleagues, he loved and enjoyed helping the people he saw in his practice, he felt love for humankind and it showed. Nurses who attended him during his health issues always commented on how loving and kind he was. Toward the last days of his life he repeated the mantra, Love, Love, Love often. His daughters and their mother were wonderful, spending time with him in the hospital when they could, and helping Kandy who was experiencing a health crisis and multiple surgeries during that time. She was able to bring him home for the last few weeks with the help of Hospice. Bud would be the first to say that he was immeasurably blessed and grateful for the many blessings of his life. A Memorial Service will be announced later. Please pass on love and kindness in whatever way you can.
