On October 9, 1950 in Malvern, Arkansas, a little girl, Debbie, was born to Bob and Ellen Colvin. No one could have guessed what a feisty, headstrong, and hardworking young lady she would become. She had a brother, Jerry. Eventually, three sisters, Cathy, Bobbie, and Tammy joined the two siblings to complete the family.
From an early age, she loved to fish and also loved sports. In the seventh grade, she met someone who would change her life forever, Wayne Cook. By her own admission, she knew from the beginning that "he was the one!" They graduated high school in 1968. Then on March 21, 1970, they were married in downtown Hot Springs.
April 15, 1973 was a big day for Debbie. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Wayne joined her in 1988. The ministry became the most important thing in their lives. They helped build branch buildings and Kingdom Halls in New York, Venezuela, and Uruguay. Debbie was often assigned to clean or cook but as soon as she finished, she would go straight to the construction site to help Wayne with concrete or sheetrock.
In 2015, Debbie was invited to work on the largest construction site Jehovah’s Witnesses have ever had. She wrapped pipes and worked on drywall. She loved giving her life in whole souled devotion to her God. It was a joy to watch her fulfill her heart’s desire to do all she could for Jehovah. She was an example even in her business, as most customers would comment what a hard worker she was.
She was an excellent wife. As a sister, none would compare. She was more like our mother.
At Job 14:14, Job asked "If a man dies, can he live again? ...You will call, and I will answer you." This was a precious scripture to Debbie and she believed it with all her heart. Debbie’s hope was to be resurrected back here to earth when God brings Paradise Earth.
So we will wait for our dear wife, sister-in-law, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to be brought back to life. Our sorrow is great! We will miss her dearly and long for the time when will see her again. It’s just around the corner.
