Billy V. “Bill” McClendon of Bigelow, Arkansas passed away peacefully at home on April 5,
2019 at the age of 92. He was born in Deering, Missouri on October 3, 1926 to Melvin and Ruth
McClendon, both of whom predeceased him. He grew up in Caruthersville, Missouri and
graduated from Caruthersville High School. He was a veteran who served honorably in the
United States Navy during World War II and attended Southeast Missouri State College.
He worked his entire life in the construction industry and the family lumber business. He was
generous with his time and expertise. He was a Jaycee who quite often kept their goat, Midnight
when he missed a meeting. He was an ardent fisherman and a hunter who had numerous
adventures driving every type of vehicle.
He was a member of and was baptized in the Wye Mountain Methodist Church, Bigelow,
Arkansas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Marceline Simmons McClendon, daughter Marla
McClendon-Popa (Dennis Popa, deceased) of Bigelow, son Van McClendon (Sandra) of Little
Rock, grandson Cleve McClendon, (Amie) and great granddaughter Alannah of Collierville,
Tennessee, his sister Elizabeth Kindred of Shreveport, Louisiana and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019, 11:00 am at the Wye Mountain
Methodist Church, 22300 Highway 300, Bigelow, AR 72016. A luncheon will be provided
