Beverly Fergusson Goggans was born July 27, 1939 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and passed away on July 10, 2015 in Little Rock after a prolonged illness. At various points in her life she was a member of the Altheimer United Methodist Church, Lakeside United Methodist Church of Pine Bluff, and St. James Methodist in Little Rock. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 15 at 2:00 pm at St. John’s Chapel By The Creek in Benton.
She enjoyed laughter, music, stories, art, athletics and travel throughout her life, but she always found the greatest joy in time she spent with her family and friends. Beverly often said, “I was born happy, and filled with joy from God, family and friends all my days.”
A highly acclaimed basketball player in high school, she enrolled at the University of Arkansas where she became a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority as well as numerous other organizations on campus. Throughout her adult life she committed to a number of volunteer efforts, including but not limited to Pine Bluff Junior League, Daughters of American Revolution, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, League of Women Voters, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Jefferson Preparatory School, and several political campaigns.
In 1980 she attained the status of Life Master, the highest rank available at the time in the American Duplicate Bridge League. Simultaneously she started and managed several small business ventures. Survivors include: John Miles Goggans, husband, Little Rock; Miles McFerrin Goggans, son, Little Rock; Johnna G. Thomas, daughter, Little Rock; Jack Thomas, grandson, Little Rock; Sandra Fergusson Lunestad, sister, Hot Springs; Ashley Fergusson Bowie, niece, Jonesboro; Susan Goggans, niece, Little Rock; Tom Goggans, nephew, Sherwood; Ferrin Lunestad, niece, Hot Springs; Berit L. Rhodes, niece, Reedley CA; Mary Mac Bowie, great niece, Jonesboro; Gauge Rhodes, great nephew, Reedley CA; Lily Lunestad, great niece, Hot Springs; Finn Rhodes, great nephew, Reedley CA. Mrs. Goggans was preceded in death by her father, McFerrin Fergusson of Altheimer, her mother Dorothy Berry Fergusson of Altheimer, and her brother, Mac Ferrin Fergusson, of Stuttgart. The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to her care-givers, especially those at Arkansas Hospice. In recent months she would remind visitors how much she loved to travel and would add, “I’m excited about this trip; Please be happy for me!”
