Ann Carrithers

August 12, 1934 — February 19, 2022

Hot Springs

Ann Carrithers, age 87, of Hot Springs, passed away Saturday Feb 19, 2022.

A lifelong learner who loved to teach others, Ann (Nuttall) Carrithers was born in Decatur, Illinois to parents Ralph and Ardith Nuttall on August 12th, of 1934.

Attending Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana, Ann had already carved out her future path by receiving her degree in Special Education with an emphasis in theater arts. She caught the eye of the inimitable George Theodore “Ted” Carrithers and married in December of 1956, shortly before graduation.  So life began, a beautiful marriage of 64 years with the addition of 4 children. These early years kept Ann busy as wife and mother, but never too busy to extend a hand to others. Her list of accomplishments and achievements highlight her lifelong pursuit of knowledge and insight and leave a legacy of service to others,

Ann was a graduate of Indiana State University and member of Chi Omega sorority, a retired teacher from Hot Springs School District, 22-year Executive Director of Hot Springs Area Community Foundation, National Park Rotary Club, Paul Harris Fellow, 2015 Woman of the Year by the Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce, Advisory Council for Garvan Woodland Gardens, AP Chapter PEO, Athena Club, Chi Omega Alumna, The Caring Place Board, Life-time Master Gardener, Oaklawn Center on Aging Board and Women’s Leadership Council, Chair.

She was a faithful and active member of First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs, 35 year teacher of the Genesis Class, Chair of The Columbarium Committee and served on many of the church committees over the years.

Among her numerous hobbies and interests she enjoyed tennis, playing bridge, gardening, working puzzles, reading, watching Razorback football, basketball and baseball and writing original poetry to celebrate birthdays and special events.

She deftly wove wit and wisdom into all of her endeavors.  If there was a word to describe Ann’s approach to anything, it would be excellence – whether it be presenting a proposal for a multi-million dollar endowment, or choosing the perfect centerpiece and menu for a scripted mystery dinner party for 20. The lives she touched through her generous spirit are untold, but the ones who were most dear to her heart were her children and family.

She was preceded in death by parents, Ralph and Ardith Nuttall and brother, Jim David Nuttall and husband Ted Carrithers.

She is survived by daughters Denise Moore (Harold); Kelly Mahoney (Brook); Jane Poole (Bert).  Son, Timothy (Tammy). Grandsons: Dr. Jason Coleman (Rachel); Ryan Coleman (Taryn); Tyler Hooper (Beth); Ross Carrithers (Callie); Hunter Carrithers (Tatiana); Andrew Mahoney (Jordan); Spencer Mahoney (Maude).  Granddaughters: Emily Moore; Mikayla Moore.  And 17 great-grandchildren.

If you knew Ann, you loved and admired her. And though she has gone before us, we are comforted by a legacy of love and compassion. Well done, good and faithful servant.

A Celebration of Life service is being planned for 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 7th, 2022, in the sanctuary at FUMC, Hot Springs, Ar.

Memorials may be made to First UMC Hot Springs Columbarium Landscape Fund, The Caring Place Hot Springs, Garvan Woodlands Garden, Hot Springs Area Community Foundation
